Glamour Portrait
In this tutorial I will show you how to add eye makeup to a portrait, and enhance and change color of the eyes. I started this by running Portraiture Professional, not shown in the steps (it kicks serious butt).
First, open your photo in photoshop. This ones already pretty nice looking, but just you wait!

Next, make a new layer and name it Dodge (because we are going to use the dodge tool on this layer)

Select around the eyes, and then copy and paste the selection into the new Dodge layer. Then, with the Doge layer selected choose Unsharp Mask from the filter menu

Set the sharpening values as below, or whatever looks best to you. I used 100% not 500% as shown as it was too much, but play with it till you like the outcome. 2.0 radius and 4 for threshold should be good (pretending I know what exactly those mean)

The sharpened dodge layer will probably look pretty intense, so reduce the opacity till it looks good. I set mine to 40%

Now make another new layer called highlights, and make sure its above of the dodge layer in order, not below

With a soft brush at about 10px or whatever size works for your image, paint white highlights on the lower left side of the eyes (make sure your new highlights layer is the active layer)

Now change the blending mode of the highlights layer to Overlay

Next, open the color picker and select a color from the shadows above the eye, for applying some eye makeup

Create another new layer, put it above the others at the top and call it Makeup. Then, with the new makeup layer active, use a soft brush in the color you picked in the previous step and draw around the eyes.

Ta Daaaa! Alll done
Just kidding.. next apply a guassian blur of 10.5 or so to the makeup layer

Next, change the blending mode of the makeup layer to Soft Light

Beautiful

Next, make a new layer called Eyelashes. Put it at the top of the other layers. Using an eyelash brush, click once with brush set at full opacity and flow with the new eyelash layer selected to create a the first set of top eyelashes. If you do not have an eyelash brush, please make some using the tutorial located here: Eyelash Brush Tutorial

You will probably need to rotate the lashes a bit if, if so choose Free Transform from the edit menu with your new eyelashes layer selected.

Rotate and drag your eyelash into place.

Now, make another layer called Eyelashes 2, and open the brushes window (windows>brushes). Check off the FLIP Y button to flip the brush to make a top set of eyelashes for the other eye.

Do the same last few steps you did previously, make sure the Eyelashes 2 layer is selected, click once with brush at full opacity and flow to create a set of eyelashes. Choose edit>free transform and rotate/drag it into place over the other eye.

Repeat the above steps for the bottom eyelashes. Make a layer called bottom eyelashes, use bottom eyelashes brush, free transform and rotate/drag into place.

Do the same for the other eye. Make sure you create another layer, bottom eyelashes 2, first

The result so far. Looking good!

If you’re happy with everything, flatten the image. You can save a copy at this stage if you might want to go back and edit it later, or you can duplicate the image to have two working copies on screen.

Now, create a new layer and call it Eye Color.

Select around the eyes, and open the color picker (with your new eye color layer selected). Pick a color you want, I am picking green! Don’t worry about it being too bright, picking a bright shade of a color will stand out more than a dark shade of a color, for example this bright green.

Your image should look something like this

Now, change the blending mode on the Eye Color layer to hue

Much better! Adjust the opacity a little till it looks nice.

Then, make a new layer called White and repeat the steps above (fill the layer with white). Make sure you don’t deselect your selection around the eyes.

With the new White layer selected, choose filter>guassian blur and set it to about 5.5

Next, adjust the White layers blending mode to Overlay.

Adjust the opacity on the White layer till you like how it looks.

Now, create a group from the New Color and White layers and call it eyes. this will allow you to adjust the opacity of them both at the same time

And the results! Before and After. (before I ran the portraiture professional filter, also)

And, my finished image after adjusting colors and applying a few actions. I hope you enjoyed my tutorial, and I will post more soon! ![]()
