Happy Happy Monday

Hello! Well, today has been pretty cool compared to how I thought it was going to turn out. I was supposed to have six hours of business of photography today, which isn’t exactly my favorite class, due to having a makeup class today on top of the regular 3 hour class. We had “one on one’s” today, so I basically spent the whole class in lab messing around and talking with friends till my turn to talk to our teacher for about 10 minutes came up. lol. So that was fun. However, we still have the 3 hour makeup class tonight to go to.. from 6:30 – 9:30! BLAH! Anyway, besides that, today I got to pet (and hold) a hawk at school! Our school for some reason has a VHA program which stands for vet assistant something or other. So, one of the students brought in a hawk! and one of my friends is in the VHA program, so they came and got me and some other friends at break to check it out. Not sure exactly where it’s from, but it was pretty rad. I took some photos of course :D

After class my roommate and a friend and I went to a local used camera store. I tried an old Tokina 150-500mm, which I kind of want to buy (230 bucks I think) and then a man who came into the store gave me an old camera! He asked my roommate if he wanted a camera, and he said no, so I was like “I like old cameras!” or something like that. He then gave it to me, and I was pretty excited haha. It’s an old german Zeiss Ikon Nettar, complete with old school flash and flash bulbs! I think it takes some sort of old film too, which is cool. I love film cameras, and I adore antiques! I think its from around 1959 or so. I was pretty thrilled, random present from a random stranger! I am excited to try it out if I can find some old film. So that was fun.. =)

Yesterday I took some shots of a few dolls I am planning on selling, among other things. I made a little “fairy house” in the orchard on the acreage I live on. I laid down leaves and grass and collected dandilions that had turned to fluff :) . I used to build little fairy houses with my big sister when I was a little girl, and yep, it’s still a lot of fun! I will post a few pics once I get them edited.

I decided to start a new project today, I am going to take a photo of myself every day for a year and post them each day as I go along. I have seen it done by others and think it will be a pretty cool project. I got the idea originally when I saw something on TV I think about a photographer that took a photo of his daughter every day for a year. I thought it was sooo sweet. I think it will be interesting. Here is my first photo, Day One, with my new antique camera I got today. :)

Metal Show

Wow, I have been so busy with school lately, I haven’t updated my blog for a while! I photographed a metal show a few weekends ago in Penticton; a band called At Times of Madness (and another band, tho not sure of the name). I’m hoping to do some more event photography soon; it was a lot of fun.

Here are some of the pics.

Pretty Little Things

Yesterday I ventured into my yard, trying to avoid the wasps which seem to be everywhere (arg) and took some photos of the tiny flowers that get a chance to thrive when the lawn hasn’t been cut for a while..:O (yes, good reason not to cut the lawn :) ) and some other flowers I found in my yard. It’s been a busy week and tomorrow I am heading to Victoria, a city on Vancouver Island to visit a friend and do some stock shoots as well. So that should be fun. And now, I am off to do some shopping!

My New Blog

Hello and welcome to my new blog!

My name is Kirsten Dayton, and I am a 24 year old photographer from beautiful Kelowna, BC, Canada. I am setting up this blog as a place where clients can view sneek peeks of their shoots, and also where I can blather on about my incredibly, interesting, fascinating life. Or, at least post a few pics of my dogs. :D

I also an a professional image retoucher photoshop extrodinaire (I just made that title up, and I’m pretty sure its not spelled correctly) and I will also be posting some photoshop tutorials, for you, my wonderful readers, to try at home. If I get any. Or, this will all be for me to read, over and over again. Just kidding.

Thanks for coming to my blog!
